Kinesiology is the study of human movement, and its goal is to discover strategies for enhancing human health and performance. The work of kinesiologists benefits all those who move, including high-performance athletes, people suffering from chronic injury or disease, and those wanting to improve their overall physical health.

More than 500 undergraduate students are enrolled in the Faculty of Kinesiology. They major in athletic therapy, biomechanics, exercise and health physiology, outdoor pursuits, mind sciences in kinesiology, pedagogy (the art and science of teaching), or a general program. Joint degrees with the Faculties of Management, Education and Nursing, as well as a collaborative dance program with the Faculty of Fine Arts, are also available to our students.

Our faculty attracts an exceptional calibre of student, with more than three-quarters of our high-school applicants having graduated with an average of 80 per cent or higher. Students in the faculty may choose to pursue either a Bachelor of Kinesiology, or a Bachelor of Science.

As society becomes increasingly health-conscious and fitness-oriented, more careers in the health and wellness industry are available to our graduates. Opportunities for advanced studies are also increasing, with the recent introduction of a PhD program in Kinesiology emphasizing biomechanics and health/exercise physiology. Currently, our graduate students are doing work in the fields of medical sciences, mechanical engineering, psychology, educational psychology and education.

In the future, we will continue to strengthen our inter-faculty undergraduate and graduate education in human performance, sport medicine, joint injury and arthritis, and biomechanical engineering. New opportunities will emerge for students as we develop international-calibre programs in the emerging areas of nutrition, genetics and human performance.

The Faculty of Kinesiology is committed to training professionals who have a strong foundation in the study of movement and sport from both the theoretical and applied perspectives. Through the integration of research, education and practical applications of knowledge, our students are exposed to unparalleled learning opportunites.
