Dale is a Senior Instructor
and Head Athletic Therapist in the Faculty of Kinesiology. He is responsible
for coordinating the health care for 14 University of Calgary athletic
teams, while working particularly closely with the Dinosaur Football team.
He is interested in personal
fitness activities, outdoor activities, rodeo, team roping, coaching Little
League baseball, and driving his four sons to minor hockey functions, with
a lot of help from his wife. Currently he is a director of the Canadian
Pro Rodeo Sport Medicine Team, a multidisciplinary group of health care
professionals that provide health care to Canadian professional rodeo.
Dale has been the Chief Therapist
of the Canadian Medical Team for the Commonwealth Games in 1986, and has
been selected as Chief Therapist of the Canadian Medical Team for the Olympic
Winter Games in Nagano, 1998. He was also the Chief Therapist for the Host
Medical Team of the 1988 Olympic Winter Games in Calgary, and was part
of the Host Medical Team during the 1976 Summer Olympic Games in Montreal.
He has been a rehabilitation consultant for the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Team.
Dale was the President of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association
(CATA) for 1996-97. He has held a variety of other positions on the Board
of Directors of the CATA over a fifteen year period.
Academic interests include
epidemiological assessment of athletic pursuits, in particular football,
hockey, and professional rodeo. Previously Dale studied the microvasculature
and blood flow in normal and healing ligaments. He has ongoing interests
in strength, flexibility, proprioception, and throwing arm injuries in
baseball. There are strong links to baseball, as Dale has been a mentor
to four different students that are presently in the Toronto Blue Jays
organization.
