Gretchen Ghent is a Librarian Emeritus at the University of Calgary, having taken early retirement after serving 25 years from staff librarian to in her last position as Head of the Sciences/Professions Area in the University of Calgary Library.

A graduate of Ohio State University with an additional degree in Library Science from the University of British Columbia, she is a founding member and the present Chair of the North American Sport Library Network. Currently President of the International Association for Sport Information (IASI), she also serves on the Editorial Board of the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education.

Her website, Scholarly Sport Sites: a Subject Directory was created in 1999 to assist IASI, NASLIN and the academic community with links to important resources for sport sciences research. A volunteer indexer for SPORTDiscus database, she has contributed over 4,000 indexed records for the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, the Canadian Sport History Project and currently sport essays and chapters from non-sport books.

Conference presentations include Archival Networks and Databases: Sport Archives information in Canada and the United States, for the 12th IASI World Congress, Beijing, and the essay, Magazines in the Berkshire Encyclopedia of World Sport, 2005.
